Feel The History In The Healing Waters Of Pamukkale

Located 18 km north of the city of Denizli, the ancient city of Hierapolis was founded in the 2nd century BC by King Eumenes II of Pergamon. The name Hierapolis is said to be derived from Hiera, the wife of Telephos, the legendary founder of Pergamon. Due to being situated in an earthquake-prone region, the city was repeatedly destroyed and rebuilt after each earthquake. Known as the “Cotton Castle,” this area is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, famous for its white travertine terraces formed by mineral-rich hot springs that have been flowing for thousands of years. This unique geological formation offers visitors a landscape that seems to belong to another world.

Most of the ruins in the ancient city of Hierapolis (Pamukkale), which dates back to the Roman period, along with the stunning Pamukkale terraces next to it, were added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1988 as both a cultural and natural heritage site. Throughout history, it has also been an important center of healing and belief.
